O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I offer you my prayers, works, joys, and sufferings of this day for all the intentions of your Sacred Heart, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the Holy Souls in purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal Church, those in my own home and within my family, and in particular for the intentions of the Holy Father this month. Dear Heavenly Father, I pray for Fr. Dan, our Bishop Jacques, Pope Francis, and our parishioners in need of healing and in assisted living.
The month of January is traditionally devoted to the Holy Name of Jesus. After the Blessed Virgin Mary conceived by the Holy Spirit, the angel Gabriel appeared to St. Joseph and instructed him to name the Child “Jesus,” which means “God Saves.” In accordance with Jewish law, male children were circumcised and named on the eighth day after birth, marking their entry into God’s covenant. Historically, the Roman liturgical calendar celebrated the Feast of the Circumcision of Jesus on January 1st, commemorating both His circumcision and the giving of His sacred name. Today, the Church observes the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God, on January 1st and honors the Holy Name of Jesus on January 3rd. For Catholics, the name of Jesus is a source of special devotion, often represented by the Christogram “IHS,” derived from the first three letters of His name in Greek.
Almighty and everlasting God, have mercy upon Thy servant, Pope Francis, our Supreme Pontiff, and direct him, according to Thy loving-kindness, in the way of eternal salvation; that, of Thy gift, he may ever desire that which is pleasing unto Thee and may accomplish it with all his might. Through Christ Our Lord. Amen.
Our Father. Hail Mary.
